I’m making my attempt at 3D modeling, using the most efficient and simple software I can find: Tinkercad. Since the rover is so geometrical, modeling in 3D should be very straightforward. I’m already able to get more detailed drawings done. To the point of nearly completely abandoning all physical modeling outside of quick notes. Being able to use all the software’s functions on a tablet. The Thruster detail is amazing. I can design the axial motors within a transparent shell. 3D gives me a much better sense of what will realistically fit. Now I can engineer a part into a module based on actual dimensions.

Vector and propulsion axial motors

This will give me a much better general layout of the Modules. I’m finding more room in spaces I didn’t know I could use and I can find corrections for things that didn’t show up in 2D. For instance, the Pylons angle is very easy to configure. Twin dampers will fit within each propulsion nacelle. Powerpack distribution should be easier to figure out now.

There’s a feature to motivate wheels that I plan to try as I’m easing into Blender 3D.
