Working Inside or Out

With a small break in daily living. I’m deciding on where would I start; inside or outside. The thrusters are the foundation but the throne is th centerpiece. There’s a do anything, go anywhere theme from the start but all for the sake of the command center. It will make sense as we go along what these things are. Although the exterior is modular, each section requires engineering with much lower tolerances. A system has to be developed to precisely and individually control each thruster, with no mechanical link between either of them. The interior should be nothing more than a futuristic workstation. A subcompact RV of sorts. A fully equipped survival pod, isolated from the outside world but with every possible technology to interact with it. Let’s start inside.

Using images gathered from various searches, I’ll go over the basics. The single centrally positioned seat is swivels 360 degrees for egress and ingress as well as accessing every feature within the cabin. As the AR is fully autonomous, the pilot only needs to face forward for manual driving.  The primary influence began with the Gunstar from The Last Starfighter.

The HUD and control panel are in a fixed position while only the seat rotates.

The seat is surrounded by quadrants, positions for each interior mode: command, stores, recreational and ingress/egress. The general visual concepts of these quadrants:

From the command position, driver is surrounded and aided by various holographic, virtual and augmented displays.
The wraparound command center is similar to a 360 workstation with legroom to freely rotate the chair at any moment, unobstructed.

While not as form fitting as a racing seat, it is supportive but ergonomics is the primary goal. Driving is not the sole purpose of the ARX seat. It should be thought of as a very high end Lay-Z-Boy. It’s all about hedonism.  To the right is the life support systems:

Food supplies, cooler/warmer, emergency oxygen, medical.
Not as high mounted as this example, to not obstruct vision.

The left quadrant is for storage, arms and exterior survival gear. The left and right quads blend into the rear hatch quad:

While the AR has more of a hatch, this is still a similar representation.

With the basic surroundings set. The next discussion is the seat itself. We’ll go into the controls, functions, shape and accessories of the seat. Weight is a factor. Not for vehicle performance, but strictly due to the overall density and therefore overall weight savings.
